Hello! My name is Lauren Samantha Smith, but you can call me Samantha. I am a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW #4918). I have been practicing in Wichita since 2015. From 2018 to early 2022 I worked at Sunflower Counseling providing therapy to adolescents, teens, and adults. Previously I worked at Cana Counseling of Catholic Charities providing school based therapy to students at schools in the Wichita Diocese.
My specialties include working with adolescents, teens, and individuals struggling with various mental health concerns, behavior issues, and significant life transitions. I am also an ally and affirming provider for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I use a mix of play therapy techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solutions focused therapy, along with a strengths based approach to help children and their families strengthen their relationships and reach their highest potential. I believe wholeheartedly in the power of play and work to foster a creative, open, and accepting environment in which you can feel safe to work through your problems with plenty of support.
In 2013 I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Kansas and in 2015 I returned to KU to obtain a Master of Social Work. I have completed 150 hours of training from Heartland Play Therapy Institute and am a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). I have also completed EMDR training thru EMDR Support Network. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is an evidence-based training for treating PTSD and trauma. Additionally, I received specialized training for gender affirming care and treatment for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband, playing video games, reading, and doing crafts.
I am in network with many insurance plans such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Medicaid plans – Sunflower/Cenpatico, Healthy Blue, UnitedHealthcare.
I see clients ages 10 through adulthood and am currently accepting new clients.
